This Leeds mum is relaunching storytelling sessions for pre-schoolers

Exciting story telling for tots is relaunching in Leeds with new Covid-19 safety procedures.

Leeds mum Rachel Shipman, from Horsforth, launched Pop Goes The Story two years ago to bring much-loved children’s books to life with sensory activities, messy play, puppets and singing.

But her classes were abruptly halted as lockdown hit, leaving children without stories, and an uncertain future for the business. However, ongoing demand has seen Pop Goes The Story adapt its methods, with new equipment and procedures.

Mother of two, Rachel said: “I am passionate about sharing the power of storytelling with children. When my little girl was younger, she didn’t appear interested in books, but as soon as puppets and music were introduced, she immediately became engaged and would happily sit through an entire book.

“I knew there was something in this, so Pop Goes The Story was born and I built it up into a successful business delivering regular classes, workshops in nurseries and children’s parties across Leeds.”

Rachel delivered free, online storytimes throughout lockdown, but demand continued to build. She has worked closely with industry bodies, Government guidance, insurers, venue partners and parents to ensure safety in classes.

Pop Goes The Story will run 45 minutes classes from November 2, on Wednesdays at Kids About Tarn, Yeadon (10.30am), Thursdays at St James Woodside, Horsforth (10am) and The Heart Centre, Headingley (1.30pm).
