After last week's heavy defeat the red squad were looking to bounce back with an improved performance in the first home match of the season.

The home side captained by Joe Rainford went straight on the attack, Sam Hughes linking well with Joseph Snowden in midfield, soon had Matthew Raby racing through on goal, only for Harold Taylor in the visitor's goal to make the first of several good saves to deny Horsforth.

Early attacks by Long Lee were dealt with by Thomas Filarowski who was having another fine game at full back, his battling displays have become a feature of this Horsforth side lately.

Sam Cole and Andrew Parsons launched the ball forward from central defence at every opportunity and several breaks resulted in corner kicks for Horsforth. It was from one of these that Joe Rainford found the head of Joseph Snowden whose flick on was met at the back post by Josh Pheasey and his firm header found the net to open the scoring, 1-0.

In the home goal Alex Fox-Bulivant had gathered everything Long Lee had to offer quite comfortably but he had no chance with the equaliser. Horsforth were guilty of watching the ball bounce, Long Lee forward Aaron Sowden wasn't, he strode forward and from fully 25 yards wide out on the right he sent a booming effort over the home keeper to level, 1-1.

Halftime arrived with Long Lee keeper Harold Taylor somehow keeping a Sam Hughes effort out, his save brought loud applause from both sets of admiring supporters.

The second half saw a lot of chances fall to Horsforth, Matthew Raby scoring to restore the lead, 2-1. Sam Hughes again, Sam Cole and Callum Sharp all had chances to extend the lead but Aaron Sowden made no mistake at the other end going on a solo run and somehow holding off Oliver Poulton and scoring from the rebound off the home keeper. It was to be the last of the scoring, the match finishing even at 2-2.

This was a huge improvement on last weeks display, with Miles Tidman and Leon Corneille-Cowell helping to banish some of last weeks memories with good battling performances.

This Horsforth U-11 Red Squad is on the lookout for a couple of players to complete the squad and a shirt sponsor for the remainder of the season. If you can support the club please contact:
