The Terrace review: A beer-lovers' paradise, nestled on the side of the Aire Valley

“Where’s Id-”
“Just - just trust me on this, okay?”
It’s a conversation I have had many a time over the past few months, but have often found myself vindicated by my friends’ first impressions.
Idle is an area to the northeast of Bradford, close to Guiseley and Apperley Bridge. It boasts an old-fashioned village centre, along with a surprisingly plentiful selection of bars.

Hide AdMany Leeds folk’s only interaction with the place often doesn’t extend beyond an acknowledgement of the amusingly-monikered Idle Working Men’s Club – still a thriving venue with a large membership.
But, while Idle still has strong links with its heritage, there are also some smaller, more modern places to eat and drink.
The Terrace – run by the same people who look after the West Riding in Dewsbury Station – looks out from the narrow stone streets, but is deceptively spacious inside.
The terrace’s titular outdoor space had no expense spared – a beautiful, wood-panelled garden with enough space for around 15-20 people, overlooking the picturesque Aire Valley.

Hide AdThe interior consists of a slightly larger, airy-yet-comfortable space, with a raised bar area.
The bar hosts numerous events throughout the year, including tribute shows, a midweek quiz as well as numerous Christmas events at the end of the year.
As someone whose alcohol tastes have not developed beyond the age of 18, I often find any beer more locally produced than Fosters to be a little too… “flavoursome”.
So it was with great delight I can report that Yon Lager (£4), produced by the Ossett Brewery, is light enough for a philistine such as myself to enjoy on a hot (the weather was very hot) afternoon.

Hide AdMy drinking companion opted for the Lemon Fizz (7.50), a cocktail consisting of Limoncello, and prosecco, with a lemon on the side. A summery citrus kick with a hint of sherbet – yet not too sweet.
There is a steady cocktail menu as well as a selection of real ales. Pizzas, burgers and sandwiches are also available.
