Traditionally Yarnbury hold their Annual Dinner Thursday before Easter and this year was no exception to celebrate their 136th year in existence and as such are known as Yarnbury (Horsforth) RFC before the
split with Rugby League.

Although nowadays it is nothing but a distant memory this title shows a committment to propogating Rugby Sport in the community and this was the gist of the speech given by Yarnbury's 80-year-old President Raymond Johnson when he gave a toast to Yorkshire Rugby and the game.

Raymond is 'Mr Yarnbury' to old and young alike having served the club for half of the last century!He explained the massive progress made on the playing side over the last year with four teams on the field every week despite atrocious conditions recently.Yarnbury Senior side are pushing for promotion to Yorkshire One in third spot.

The second string (Yarnbury Hornets) are top of the second team merit league and thirds and fourths/vets are performing well every week.Also the Yarnbury Colts are top of League 2 and stronger than for many years with the under 17's following the same development path.

Paul Trigg from Yorkshire Council member responded to the toast on behalf of Yorkshire Rugby and first team skipper Ben Horner thanked the guests for their support.

These included Mr Paul Trigg from Yorkshire Rugby,Tony Keegan (Old Modernians),Richard Smith (West Leeds ),Jim Chapman (Airebronians),and Alex Bowden representing Beverley.

The guests had a thoroughly enjoyable evening which was finished off with a local comedian.

Next week sees a return to League action at Dinnington for a crutial game and the Aire Whalf Cup between Yarnbury Hornets and Airebronians 1st Team will be rearranged for early April after Saturday's snow postponed all games.
