Roll up your sleeves and get ready to sell, sell, sell - without even having to leave your desk. That's the challenge to businesses who are being invited to raise money for Horsforth-based Barnardo's in the charity's first eBay-style auction.
The eBay Challenge hopes to see hundreds of Yorkshire businesses shopping for and selling items in a 'virtual' charity shop which will be opening its doors for business on May 30.

The event is headed up by law firm, Addleshaw Goddard who have cho
sen to support Barnardo's Yorkshire as their Charity of the Year in 2008. MissionFish, Ebay's charitable arm, is also helping to organise the event.

The money raised will be split between four Yorkshire charities – Barnardo's Yorkshire; Leeds Mencap; Centrepoint and St Ann's Hospice.

Tom Warman, head of fundraising at Barnardo's Yorkshire, said: "This is the first time we're set to benefit from such an event and are looking forward to seeing lots of Yorkshire based businesses getting involved. It's a new and exciting way for people to raise money for the 10,000 vulnerable children and young people we support across Yorkshire, and bag a bargain at the same time."

Marcus Jamieson-Pond from Addleshaw Goddard, said: "The event promises to be a lot of fun. Items that end up for sale at the auction will have been found by the teams, so they will be as varied as people's imaginations and ingenuity.

"Examples we plan to sell of include a couple of old video conferencing TVs; a signed Scotland rugby shirt; a couple of old suit jackets and coats that have been left in lost property for a number of years and a whole load of in-car Blackberry holders."
