Helped by their parents and schoolgovernors, the pupils placed trees around the school and were given lessons in how to help them grow.

The school, in Victoria Crescent, runs a popular Green Team and a Gardening Club.

Craig Chaplin, the school's superintendent who also leads the Green Team, said: "The children were very enthusiastic as they donned their Wellington boots and set to work. This supports our efforts on the Green Check Project because we need to plant more flowers, shrubs and trees to further increase biodiversity."

The Co-operative Bank works with The Woodland Trust to provide tree packs and resource materials to children around the UK.
