While temperatures soared, a Horsforth student kept cool by taking to the ski slopes for charity.
Journalism student Tom Airey, from Trinity and All Saints College, skied the equivalent of Mount Everest to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Tom clocked up 17,700 metres by completing 100 descents in six and a half hours at Castleford's Xscape complex.
Tom, who hails from Anglesey, has lived in Leeds for the last five years and skiing is one of his hobbies.
He said: "I am really impressed with myself for managing it because when I had done it 70 times my legs started to ache but I kept going.
"It only took me a matter of seconds to ski down the slope, but it took over two minutes to use the lift up and down.
"A few people gave me strange looks on the way, but I think most people were outside making the most of the sun."
He also said he felt very strongly about the charity he was supporting.
"Fortunately, none of my close family have suffered from the disease, but I have had friends whose mothers have been affected by it.
Fellow post graduate student Rebecca O'Neill helped organise the event and she was on hand with other students to collect money at the bottom of the slope.
It was part of the "All Join Together" challenge for the charity and Tom even had his hair dyed pink.
Tom is still collecting for the charity.
