Man and woman struck by car in New Farnley after driver fails to stop for police

A man and a woman were hit by a driver trying to escape police during a chase in West Leeds.

A black Ford Focus failed to stop for West Yorkshire Police officers at around 1pm today (Wednesday), leading to a pursuit along the A6110 Ring Road towards Wortley.

The driver of the Focus went on to hit two members of the public, a man and a woman, in Whincover Drive, just off the main road.

The pair did not need to go to hospital.

The driver, a man aged 26, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A member of the public also reported seeing a police car having crashed into a wall near the Sainsbury's Local at the junction with Tong Road.
