Laura Addy, prosecuting, said Wales and the victim started a relationship around a year ago but it broke down after he became violent and controlling towards her.
The woman managed to obtain a restraining order after he smashed a door and a window at her home on a previous occasion.
The woman, who was 18 weeks pregnant at the time with Wales' child, heard banging on the front door and window.

The prosecutor said the woman decided to let Wales into the house so he could see no one was there in the hope that he would then leave.
She noticed a crack on the window of the front door as she went to let her former partner inside.
Wales punched the woman in the face as soon as she opened the door and she fell backwards onto the stairs.

The victim contacted a neighbour for help and Wales threw a wheelie bin at the house as he left.

The court heard Wales, of Barnes Road, Castleford, has a long criminal record for violence, including wounding and attempted robbery.

Ms Parnham said Wales pleaded guilty to the offences at an early stage and accepted that his relationship with the victim is now over.
The barrister said the only contact he would have with her in the future would be in relation to their child.
Sentencing, Jude Neil Clark said: "You have acquired a truly shocking record."
