They’ve been pushed to the limit over the last year, working in the face of adversity through one of the toughest health challenges imaginable.

Today we pay tribute to the fantastic nursing and midwifery teams at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust as today marks International Midwives Day and next week is International Nurses Day.

The words of chief nurse Lisa Grant speak volumes for her pride in her 5,000-strong team of nurses and midwives who have gone above and beyond.

For them they have stepped up to the challenge every day of supporting others when they need them the most.

Be it helping new mums to safely deliver their new arrivals in an uncertain Covid world through to supporting loved ones during their darkest of days, they have all made a difference to the lives of others.

Thank you just doesn’t go far enough for the sacrifices they have made.

These fantastic nursing teams truly are the beating heart of the National Health Service.
