The game was a contrast between Clecks tight driving play and Yarnburys free flowing play from anywhere on the park.

This ambition cost them the first score, when with only 2 minutes on the clock a dropped pass in midfield only 10 metres from their own line allowed Cleck to swoop and touch down for an early try. However, this ambition had shown the visiting threequarters that they had the beating of there counterparts and so it would prove.

The Hornets took the lead when from a midfield scrum Jason Hall burst
free before releasing winger Will Davies. He still had much to do but brushed aside the full back to score by the posts. Matt Lawson converted to give the Hornets a 7-5 lead.

The Hornets were finding possession hard to come by in the second quarter, with the home 8 putting pressure on in the scrum and monopolising the line out. Makeshift No8 Steve Riley was doing a fine job of retrieving bad ball at the scrum and Skipper Wayne Butterfield making things difficult for Cleck in the lines.

It was from a typical driving maul that Cleck re-took the lead, a 5 metre line was won the home 8 surrounded the ball and drove over. A fine conversion stretched the lead to 12 – 7. Confidence was still high in the Hornets and seconds from the half time whistle they re-gained the lead.

Good ball on the half way line was moved effortlessly down the line allowing Will Davies to scorch over for his second. The conversion from in front of the posts by Matt Lawson was successful.

The second period mirrored the first with Cleck rarely letting the ball past the fly half and when they did the Centres would head back to the safety of the forwards. Yarnbury by contrast looked to move the ball from all points and it was this ambition that won them the game.
Continually stretching there hosts an attacking position was gained for
Yarnbury's third try.

Swift interplay saw Steve Riley cut a great angle to touch down under the posts. Lawson converted to stretch the lead to 21 – 12 before a fourth try was added on 63 mins. It was perhaps fitting that last seasons Skipper Jason Hall, should score the final Honets try. Some excellent close quarters interplay allowed Hall to romp over under the posts. The conversion from Lawson stretched things to 28-12.

The warm weather was beginning to tell on the visitors and with possession becoming scarce, Cleck were able to come back into the game. 2 further tries through the forwards and a conversion set up a nervous final 5 minutes.

To there credit, the Hornets summoned up reserves of strength to repel Cleck in the final minutes.

This was a fine end to a wonderful season that saw a second successive Merit Table success in which almost 70 players have played their part in helping the Hornets.

Next season the Hornets will be playing in the Yorkshire 1 Merit Table and have proven already that they have the credentials to have a say in this league.
