With Dinnington in the bottom two teams and facing relegation and Yarnbury settled in the top four with little to play for this was always a must win for the home side and it was reflected in them bringing back their strongest team from all over South Yorkshire.

With a big pack led by Mark Pinder and ex Rotherham first teamer Dean Lax back in the threequarters Dinnington were desperatley trying to stop in this league and with a gale force wind sweping across the pitch and horizontal rain following it was always going to be a difficult game for players, officials and supporters alike/Yarnbury even left prop Adam Pike with the second team as a regular they needed to maintain their push for that merit table lead.

Yarnbury controlled the first 30 minutes or so with the help of Dinnington pack's incessent talking back to the referee who had no hesitation in giving extra yards to Yarnbury penalties. However, passing was impossible in this gale and the ball was either knocked on,lost or kicked backwards in the conditions with no play of note reported in this period.

Richard Longstaff was in the thick of some agressive rucking from both sides against his former teamates and no quarter was given by either set of forwards with the backs interested bystanders for most of the half.Simon Tabb converted a good penalty hooking the ball over the bar from close range and judging the swirling wind well to give Yarnbury an early lead but they could not capitalise in the conditions.

The half closed with a push over try to Dinnington scored by scrum half Tom Baker after Yarnbury number eight Ian Moule was sin-binned for going over the ball and the resulting scrum saw Yarnbury pack slide backwards to the extra men of Dinnington.

In the second half Dinnington scored a try down the slope from their centre after confusion in the Yarnbury defence and the pack was a little lightweight when the substitutions came and back row James Barrett manfully took on second row duties from Ian Maycock although it was not his recognised position.

Hooker Adam Reynolds went on at wing forward and debutant Mark Nixon at Scrum half with the tireless Jimmy Lee moving to fll back at the expense of winger Wayne Rayner.

Frankly the conditions spoilt what should have been an entertaining competition and even the referee was glad to get a warming cup of tea in the clubhouse afterwards!
